A man is arrested for assault with a deadly weapon after attempting to hit a deputy w/ a vehicle following a pursuit

On August 1, 2016, at 9:26 p.m., a deputy assigned to the Sheriff’s Central Station was patrolling the unincorporated area of Muscoy. He was driving north on Duffy Street near Ogden Street when he observed a suspicious vehicle, later discovered to be stolen. The deputy attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the suspects fled. A pursuit ensued through the streets of Muscoy at high rates of speed, with the driver running several stop signs, driving on the opposite side of the street and endangering the public.

The vehicle came to a stop and the passenger fled on foot. The suspect, later identified as Frederick Neely, continued driving recklessly with the deputy in pursuit. The vehicle came to an abrupt stop at the flood control channel and Neely was instructed to exit, but did not comply. The deputy attempted to take Neely into custody when Neely accelerated towards him.

The deputy fired several rounds striking Neely. Neely was taken into custody and transported to ARMC with non-life threatening injuries. The second suspect remains outstanding.
