On Sunday, November 29, 2015, at about 9:12 p.m., deputies assigned to the City of Loma Linda were dispatched to a report of an in progress Stalking. While responding to the location, the victim was able to give information to Sheriff’s Dispatch, identifying the suspect as her ex-boyfriend, Steven Ryther. She also told Dispatch she had seen him in the area and was afraid to go home because he carries a gun. When the deputy got to the house neither Ryther nor his vehicle were there. The deputy escorted the victim safely to her house. While interviewing her, the deputy learned that Ryther and the victim had been involved in a short relationship over two years ago. Since ending the relationship the victim has been continuously stalked by him in person and over the phone and the incidents have spanned both Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. While the deputy was interviewing the victim, Ryther walked up toward the victim’s house. Once he saw the deputy standing outside, he immediately ran. The deputy chased after him and found him hiding in some bushes near the property. The deputy located Ryther’s vehicle nearby and found a box containing a 9mm handgun and a loaded magazine inside. Ryther was arrested and booked at Central Detention Center without incident for violation of PC 646.9- Felony Stalking.
